Sonoma Mountain

The Sonoma Mountain begins to rise above the town of Glen Ellen at the western border of the Valley of the Moon. The soils are primarily of a volcanic nature and are very well drained. Many of the vineyards have an eastern exposure that allows them to catch the fog-free morning sun, which warms the vines quickly, as well as the afternoon sun on a slanting angle which regulates the temperature during the warmest part of the day.  The appellation is home to the Jack London Vineyard, known for its Cabernet Sauvignon. This vineyard was the dwelling of the famous author during his lifetime.

Beyond the appellation specialty of producing powerful yet elegant Cabernet Sauvignon, the uneven creases in the mountain slopes also create suitable microclimates for a limited production of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel.
