Dry Creek Valley
The Dry Creek Valley lies between the Russian River Valley to the south and the Alexander Valley to the northeast. Cool winds from the coast are diverted by mountains making the area somewhat warmer than the Russian River Valley.
Originally planted by French immigrants in 1870, Italian pioneers soon discovered a vinous geography that recalled their native Tuscany and Piedmont. They planted Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Carignane to produce hearty red wines.
Today, Dry Creek Valley is known as California’s top Zinfandel producer. Some Dry Creek Zinfandels are big and robust; others are soft and elegant. The best of them share a sensual richness of flavor that can be irresistible. Other varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are also widely planted.
