The Art
Kenwood Vineyards’ fifteenth Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon release features “Jacqueline,” an original painting by Pablo Picasso, depicting his wife Jacqueline. Picasso painted this portrait in Paris in 1958.
Born in Malaga, Spain in 1881, Pablo Picasso is known as the greatest master of art in the 20th Century. The genius of Picasso has been a guiding force in the evolution of Modern Art. While his early work is a superb example of the classical tradition, he later became a symbol of the revolutionary art of the twentieth century. Reflective of much of the artist’s oeuvre, this work, “Jacqueline,” was inspired by his wife and muse. It was created by Picasso at his Paris studio in 1958.
The Wine
The grapes selected for the 1989 Artist Series came from two premier mountainous Sonoma Valley vineyards: Lindholm Vineyard and upper Beltane Ranch. After harvest at optimum ripeness, vineyard lots were fermented in stainless steel and aged for two years in new French oak barrels.
The blend consists primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon; however, small amount of Cabernet Franc and Merlot further soften this elegant, full-bodied wine. The excellent 1989 vintage produced plenty of rich, ripe fruit with sufficient tannins to ensure a wine that will age well past the year 2000.
Composition: 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc
Aging: 24 months in new French oak
Alcohol: 13.4%
