The Art
Kenwood Vineyards’ tenth Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon release features "Pacific Coast," by Alan Wolton.
Alan Wolton was born in England in 1934 where he attended London’s Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art. This work, depicting Montaña de Oro State Park, strongly captures the majestic mood and rugged grandeur of California’s Pacific coastline.
The Wine
The grapes from the 1984 harvest are classic Sonoma Valley vintage, marked by a moderately warm growing season and optimum levels of grape maturity and composition.
The grapes are a blend of the finest small lots of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc from four separate vineyards. Each vineyard lot was kept separate during the fermentation in stainless steel and aging for two years in Nevers Oak barrels.
The finished wine exhibits a rich berry-like nose and deep flavors that reflect the superior vineyards in Sonoma Valley. Both Merlot and Cabernet Franc add a softness to the wine and an added degree of complexity to its flavors. This wine should continue to be enjoyable beyond the year 2000.
Composition: 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc
Aging: up to 24 months in Nevers Oak
Alcohol: 13.1%
