Joseph Neary, a contemporary artist whose brushes translate to canvas the many moods of America’s land, sea and sky, was born in New York and spent his early years along the Eastern seacoast.
While still a young man, he moved with his family to the Monterey Peninsula in California. His powerful paintings reflect his experience as a competitive sailor, as well as his unfailing eye for the oceans and shorelines of New England and Northern California. His work speaks of quiet moments beside the enormous surge and retreat of the seas. Mr. Neary’s paintings also reflect the windswept, surging restlessness of the environment, the ever-changing drama of surf and sky, of rail-down sailing ships fighting wind and current, and the sturdy duty of lighthouses, the peace of safe harbors.
His artistic style ranges from the realistic to impressionistic images that blend emotion and color. His paintings are highly prized by collectors of fine art in America, Canada and Europe.
